ESHTE Marks World Food Day with a Session on Food Literacy

13-9112

As part of the celebrations marking World Food Day, observed on 16 October, the Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies, through its Master’s Degree in Food Quality, Safety and Health in Gastronomy, held the initiative “Looks Healthy. But Is It?” on 19 October, focusing on food literacy and the interpretation of nutritional information on food labels.

Led by Professor Tânia Albuquerque, the session aimed to raise awareness within the academic community of the importance of reading food labels critically and knowledgeably, and to encourage reflection on questions such as: Do we really know how to interpret the information provided on food packaging? And are products that appear healthier always the most appropriate choices?

Throughout the activity, participants explored tools such as the Label Decoder and Nutri-Score, complemented by case studies that encouraged them to take a more critical and informed approach to the foods they choose.
