STEP Programme Approved | Promoting Success and Reducing Dropouts in Higher Education

As part of the Directorate General for Higher Education's Programme to Promote Success and Reduce Dropouts in Higher Education, the STEP - Student Transition & Engagement Programme was approved. It was submitted as a consortium by the Lisbon School of Nursing (ESEL), the Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism (ESHTE) and the Infante Dom Henrique Nautical School (ENIDH).

The STEP Programme is based on five pillars that are critical factors in promoting academic success and preventing drop-outs from higher education, namely:

- 1st Year Student Welcome Programme;

- Mentoring Programme;

- Learning and Teaching Development;

- Teacher training;

- Monitoring school success.

The Office for Success and Dropout Reduction will develop strategies and actions to prevent and monitor dropout situations on a regular, individual and personalised basis, identify the reasons that led to dropout, propose strategies to mitigate dropout, develop specific actions that can promote the re-entry of students to courses and publicise cases of school success.
