The catalogue launch for the exhibition The Invention of Estoril: History in Photography (1914-1955) took place on Saturday afternoon, January 18, at Casa Sommer.
Derived from 2,005 previously unpublished photographs (supported by gelatin negatives on glass), the artistic treasure deposited by the Hotel Palácio in the Cascais Historical and Municipal Archive was treated, analyzed and catalogued, also giving rise to the exhibition that covers the gap between 1914-1955.
The Catalogue was launched in the presence of relatives of Fausto Figueiredo (the Inventor of Estoril), members of the Hotel Palácio, the Fundação D. Luís I, the city council, the Portuguese Association of Guides-Interpreters and Tourist Couriers (AGIC) ), to ESHTE, in addition to private individuals.
The ceremony began with speeches by the Mayor of Cascais, Carlos Carreiras, João Miguel Henriques, and Cristina Carvalho. This was followed by a guided tour of the exhibition, with the director of the Department of Archives, Libraries, and Historical Heritage of the Chamber presenting the first floor and the ESHTE professor giving the second floor.
These images surprise us with their unrepeatable moments, suspended in Time and Space, of which we are belated onlookers. This unique collection can be visited at Casa Sommer until October, and surprises are still planned for June, during the municipal holiday celebrations.
