The Ageless City: Intergenerational Spaces for Culturally Diverse Neighbourhoods in Europe project, led by Ana Gonçalves, was one of the selected projects by the European Commission to participate at the The Festival of the New European Bauhaus, from 9th to 12th June.
This experimental project was funded by the European Cultural Foundation and brought together youngsters and seniors from multiethnic neighbourhoods in two European cities – Lisbon (Portugal) and Cardiff (Wales). These groups were invited to participate in communities of learning and practice where they reflected on different ways to improve the appropriation of urban spaces and the preservation of their city’s cultural heritage. This project had different partners: Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies, Centre of Geographical Studies-IGOT-ULisboa, Fundação Cidade de Lisboa, Associação Renovar a Mouraria, The Cardiff Story museum, Butetown History and Arts Centre and Cardiff Rivers Group.
The Festival of the New European Bauhaus brings together people from different areas – from science to art, from design to politics, from architecture to technology – to debate and shape the future; a future that is sustainable, inclusive and beautiful, according to the New European Bauhaus’s motto. The programme of the festival is available at: The Festival (europa.eu).
The Ageless City project will be showcased at the online exhibition of the Festival and also at its mobile exhibition, which will be hosted in four main squares in Brussels: Gare Maritime (9 June), Mont des Arts (9 and 12 June), Place de Brouckère (10 June) and Place du Marchè aux Poissons (11 June).
