The STUDENTWELL-Be program is a proposal for joint action by the Lisbon School of Nursing (ESEL) and the Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism (ESHTE), which formed a consortium to apply for the Program for the Promotion of Mental Health in Higher Education of the Directorate-General for Higher Education.
The Mental Health and Well-Being Program has six types of intervention activities based on the Stepped Care model, with eight STEPS called StepEES (Step Student Higher Education), for the provision of mental health and well-being services, comprising a hierarchy of interventions - from the least to the most intensive - adapted to the needs of higher education students, i.e. student-centered. The proposed program for the promotion of mental health in higher education, with the stepped care model, offers a comprehensive and sequential approach to the identification and treatment of mental health problems among students in higher education and allows for efficient screening of students, prioritizing those who need more attention and referring them for appropriate treatment, while providing milder interventions for less serious cases. This optimizes the use of available resources and ensures that students with specific needs receive the appropriate support.
