Tourism and Democracy Seminar, (over) 50 years of travelling

The freedom and democracy won half a century ago fuelled the development of a sector that has become one of the main pillars of Portugal's Gross Domestic Product and employment, allowing the country to welcome millions of tourists annually.

At the initiative of the Centre for Research, Development and Innovation (CIDI), the Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism (ESHTE) joined in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Revolution of 25 April 1974, organising the Seminar Tourism and Democracy, (more than) 50 years of travel, which took place on 16 April 2024 in the Estoril Hall.

The seminar was attended by various researchers in the fields of history and tourism and attracted a very interested audience.

During the session, the best poster presented was announced and the prize, sponsored by INATEL, was awarded to Vítor Sá and Alexandra Pereira from ISLA Gaia for their work entitled "Two Englishwomen in Portugal: a journey through the country in the 1940s"

The coffee break with the support of Central de Cervejas e Bebidas was presented by students from the Master's Degree in Innovation in Culinary Arts and Sciences (MIACC) who created and adapted recipes under the theme "Recipes from April 1974".
