TI, 1ST YEAR – EXTRA-CURRICULAR VISIT TO PRAZERES CEMETERY

On the 18th April a guided tour to Prazeres Cemetery was conducted by professors Isabel Baptista and Cristina Carvalho, under the scope of the History of Portugal II subject taught to the 1st year students of Tourism Information.

The visit lasted 2h30 and occurred on the International Day for Monuments and Sites. The trajectory chosen focused on topics like the history of cemeteries in Portugal (Prazeres’ included) and some of the great men that played key roles in the making of Portugal’s contemporary history over the last 200 years.

The field trip encompassed the Palmela tomb, which is not only the cemetery’s landmark, but also the greatest private family tomb in Europe (once a ducal house).

We would like to thank Doutor Licínio Fidalgo (the Master connected to the site) for the kindness always revealed in welcoming ESHTE’s students, so they may gather awareness on the tourist product dubbed as Dark Tourism.
