Meeting of the Higher Education Network for the Safeguard of Mediterranean Diet (RIESDM)

3-6596

Last week ESHTE hosted the meeting of the Higher Education Network for the Safeguard of Mediterranean Diet (RIESDM). This network aims to promote coordination and articulation between Higher Education Institutions to share best practices in safeguarding the Mediterranean Diet and to create a strategy for research, innovation and intervention at regional, national and international level, contributing to the recognition of Portugal as a reference in this area.

The meeting was preceded by a Mediterranean lunch, prepared by Chefs Anna Lins, Luis Castelo and André Gerardo, with the collaboration of alumni from ESHTE, which sought to promote the principles of this dietary pattern throughout the served dishes, characterised by abundant intake of vegetables, olive oil and fish, not forgetting the conviviality and the pleasure around the meal.

At the meeting, the team was divided in different groups, according to the previously defined thematic areas  (Production, transformation and sustainable marketing of food, Health, food and nutrition, Gastronomy and food heritage, Culture and healthy lifestyles and Territory and sustainable development), which will focus on the actions of this Network in order to build the  2019/2020 Plan of Activities for Safeguarding the Mediterranean Diet.
