The Centre for Research. Development and Innovation Centre (CIDI) has the following generic intervention objectives:

 

  • Contribute to the realisation of ESHTE's mission, promoting intermediation between demand from the community and supply from academia, namely through the integration of teaching, research and market-oriented services and the development of competitiveness and well-being;
  • To stimulate, organise and develop research at ESHTE, exploiting the possible synergies between the various scientific areas;
  • Ensure the archiving, preservation and management of the estate of the former association CESTUR - Centro de Estudos de Turismo do Estoril, created in the past under the aegis of ESHTE, under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between ESHTE and the now defunct private law association;
  • To create a set of instruments to support research, in order to guarantee the quality of the work produced in the various centres and services that make up ESHTE;
  • To encourage links between research and teaching at ESHTE, with a view to exploiting complementarities;
  • Contribute to the process of bringing academic and business circles closer together, in order to disseminate scientific knowledge about tourism and to include on research agendas themes that fall within the scope of the priorities that frame private activity in the sector;
  • To disseminate research results, namely by publishing articles in national and international scientific journals, studying the possibility of creating its own scientific journal;
  • Organise sessions for the presentation and discussion of papers, as well as workshops, seminars and conferences;
  • Create mechanisms for liaising with national and international tourism research networks, with a view to exchanging scientific knowledge and jointly developing projects of common interest;
  • Promote advanced training programmes that do not confer any academic degree;
  • Sensitising ESHTE students to involvement in research;
  • Developing applied research studies on topics related to the intrinsic and extrinsic analysis of tourism;
  • Promote partnerships and support the implementation of projects aimed at consolidating companies, stimulating regional development and entrepreneurship;
  • Keeping a database of information on national and international programmes with funding measures for R&D projects for ESHTE teachers and researchers up to date and constantly disseminating it;
  • Host specific centres of specialised research into specific areas of the tourism phenomenon, particularly in terms of its forms, activities, products and territorial organisation.
